An Earthquake can hit whenever, wherever, and it is important to be prepared. The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team is here to guide and help you prepare for when an Earthquake hits with a list of some helpful steps:
1. Create and have an emergency kit prepared.

2. Create a communication plan with your loved ones.
In case of separation during an earthquake, you should have these four things: each others phone numbers - school and workplace names, phone numbers and addresses - procedure for who will contact who - and known locations to go in case of emergency.
3. Identify safe spots
Find the safest spots in each room in your house to go during an Earthquake. Be sure to also identify all possible ways to exit your house. Keep those spots clear.
4. Drop, Cover and Hold On

5. Outdoors during an earthquake,
If you find ourself outdoors during an earthquake, be sure to find a clear spot, away from buildings, power lines, anything that could fall on you and drop to the ground. If you find yourself in a vehicle, pull over to a clear location and stop. Stay in your car with a seat belt on until the shaking stops.
6. Prepare a clear route
After the earthquake, find a clear path to get to safety. If you are trapped and cannot get out safely, use an object to tap on a wall or use another way to alert first responders.
7. Be prepared for an after shock
Many times following an earthquake, there are aftershocks. Be alert and prepared that this will happen.
8. Contact your local Salvation Army
If you are in need of help. If you find yourself without food, water, shelter after an earthquake, be sure to contact your local Salvation Army. They will provide you the support you need to get back on your feet after a disaster.
