When a care taker of six loses everything

May 31, 2017 | by The Salvation Army

As a single mom caring for her four daughters, a grandson and an adopted son Jess always lived a frugal life. But her financial hardships reached a new level when her family lost everything in a tragic fire – their clothes, belongings, and the roof over their heads. “I just thank God no one was hurt because everyone was healthy and came out OK. Everything else can be replaced.”

Despite Jess’ optimism about her family’s future, she knew they needed help. That’s when she turned to The Salvation Army and the generosity of donors like you. “By donating, you are putting food on the table for a family, you are clothing children,” says Jess.

Thanks to your support, Jess and her family are getting necessities like food, clothing and medical care while they live in transitional housing. Jess is looking for more work and getting assistance finding a new home. Jess hopes to give back to the community however she can, knowing she’s not alone in these kinds of challenges. “Always keep your faith in hand,” she says. “Just when you think there is no light at the end of the tunnel, there is.”
